Meet the Maker
I'm Paul, the person behind InkSmithery. The shop sells funny gifts for people with a passion or a milestone - photographers, golfers and the newly retired so far - on mugs, t-shirts and prints. Each design pairs a short line about something those people know only too well with a simple ink drawing, and I personally choose, refine and sign off every word and every picture before it reaches the shop. AI tools help along the way; here's how.
I was born and raised in Lowestoft, on the Suffolk coast. I spent 24 years building a life and career elsewhere - good years, no complaints - but something kept pulling me eastward. I returned in my early forties and rediscovered the place with fresh eyes - the light on the water, the quiet stretches of coastline, the unhurried pace of a coastal town. Sometimes you need to go away to figure out where you belong.

Where the Jokes Come From
The best presents get a "that's so you" before the wrapping paper hits the floor. That's what I'm after: a gift that shows you know the person - their hobby, their habits, the thing they always say. Every design starts with a moment people in that world recognise straight away, and if it doesn't make me laugh, it doesn't go in the shop.
The drawings are deliberately simple: one ink colour, a clean frame and words big enough to read across the room, so they look right on a mug, a black t-shirt or a white wall alike. You'll also still find my earlier retro geometric designs in the shop, for as long as they last.
The Long Game
InkSmithery isn't a side hustle or a quick venture. It's a long-term project - a ten-year plan to build something that generates a genuine, sustainable income by the time I'm ready to step back from the day job. I work on it early in the mornings, late in the evenings, and in focused sprints at weekends. Every design uploaded, every product listed, every improvement to the shop is another small step towards that goal.
I believe in doing things properly. Each design is directed by me, generated through my pipeline, then reviewed by hand - anything that doesn't earn its place gets sent back. The products are printed by professional production partners on quality materials - soft 100% cotton Bella+Canvas tees, glossy ceramic mugs printed on both sides, and heavyweight matte prints. Nothing leaves the production line that I wouldn't be happy to receive myself.
How It Works
Everything in the shop is printed on demand. When you place an order, it goes straight to one of our production partners who print, pack, and ship it directly to your door. There's no warehouse full of stock, no bulk production runs, no waste. Each piece is made specifically for you.
Free delivery is included on every order to the UK, EU, and US. Most items arrive within 5 to 10 working days, depending on where you are in the world.
Straight With You About Data
When you first arrive you'll be asked about advertising cookies. I advertise on Google and Pinterest, and their cookies help show InkSmithery to people who've already had a look around - so I ask first, and if you say no, none of them are set. What you won't find: pop-ups demanding your email before you've even seen what we sell, your data being sold, or your name and address handed to advertisers (if you say yes to advertising cookies, Google and Pinterest get a scrambled copy of your email when you order, so I know which ads work; say no and they don't). I respect your attention and your privacy. You're here to look at art and maybe buy something. Everything else is a distraction.
Your data, minimised
- ✓ Cookie choices are yours. Advertising cookies from Google Ads and Pinterest only load if you accept them. Say no and none are set. Change your mind any time via “Cookie settings” in the footer.
- ✓ Never sold. We don’t sell your data to anyone, for any reason.
- ✓ Your name and address never go to advertisers. With your OK, we send Google and Pinterest a scrambled (hashed) copy of your email when you order, so we know which ads work. Say no and they get nothing that identifies you.
- ✓ Only what’s needed. Your contact and delivery details go only to Stripe to take payment and Printful to make and deliver your order.
